This handcrafted pottery is made from craftsman people in the north of Peru. This type of ceramic is famous for their unique technique that has been maintained by artisans for thousands of years from their ancestors of prehispanic Vicus culture.

After the first firing process the artisan starts with the decoration called positive-negative technique. All the spots that should be paled are covered with clay before being fired with mango leaves to smoke the parts that are not covered. Finally, the clay is removed and the design appears. Once the clay is collected and the vessel has been shaped the artisan has to burnish it by rubbing a river stone over the surface to achieve a glossy finish characteristic of chulucanas pottery.
